Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
what is your inquiry?
I don’t know where to start
I am basically a complete beginner in French language

Alright
it's a collection of grammatical lessons in order for beginner level onwards
it will give you basic grammatical knowledge to get started
is this your first time learning a language?
Yes
I will give a bit of a background
I speak fluent English and moderate Arabic
I know French language has its roots traced from latin and it also has a lot of shared vocabulary with English
at least you know two, but in that case
- learning a language takes tremendous amounts of time. Don't get discouraged if you can't understand people talking after a couple weeks of learning. Give yourself small scale objectives and goals, and take any amount of progress as a win
- don't compare yourself to others
- while translating is very useful in the beginning, French sentences fundamentally don't follow the same logic as English (or Arabic) and you should try to understand this logic and try to avoid translating everything literally if possible (you will in the beginning, totally normal)
- use multiple resources! you can stick to a guide in the beginning, but you need grammar, vocabulary, phonetics, and ultimately read and listen to media
Sure thing
Will do that!
And I can make friends here right?
Someone who can maybe guide me along the way
sure thing
you can ask questions about the language in #salle-de-classe , volunteers will answer
discuss in English in #🌈anglais-français
discuss in French in #français-débutant (beginner channel, but discussing at any level isn't a starter exercise)
- other channels
if you want a study buddy maybe you can find someone in #correspondances
