Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
@west trellis Talk in #🌈anglais-français and especially #français-débutant or #français as often as you can. Read anything you feel is at your level (manga/comics are a great way to get started), find shows you like, etc.
Get immersed in the language and learn in a way you enjoy. It's the best way to improve quickly.
can you recommend any shows to me?
I feel like whenever i watch a french show it just all goes way too fast
I recommend rewatching shows you already know.
Since you'll have an easier time following along.
immersion in native media is very good, but is mostly impactful as long as you can understand at least something, and are able to use fundamental knowledge about the language to deconstruct what they are saying.
If you're an early beginner, I really recommend you start with grammar lessons, as well as learning phonemes and some vocabs, while sticking to tailored for beginner media, before then moving on to native media
Just want to dispell a couple myths you might have:
-
No one person can teach you a language. It requires a ton of personal effort, motivation, and hours in addition to having input from lots of different people.
-
You can't learn a language "fast". It takes most people years before they get to a level where they can easily have a conversation.
i dont need to know perfect french i just need decent french
I wasn't talking about perfect French
even decent French takes years
and hundreds of hours
I watched the pokemon anime as a kid and played a couple of the games on the gameboy all in English.
Now I'm doing it in french and they've helped a lot lol. You could try using content you liked as a kid and accessing a french version of it now
