Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
Nvm I left a comment and the page themselves replied to me saying it was a mistake they didn’t catch lol. Kind of figured but wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing some obscure rule 😝 thanks for reading anyway
👌
Wait so should it be un bon médecin or une bonne médecin
Une bonne médecin.
Yea i just don't know how it works when the word doesn't have a feminine version
I doubt there's a general rule, so I'll assume that it's on a word-by-word basis for now. I'm also curious, though.
I'm pretty sure u can say un bon docteur when talking about a woman
Also we don't actually use médecin do we lol
It's just docteur
Docteur could be anyone with a doctorate but on its own it implies médecin
Yeah, definitely. The grammatical masculine, which is the default for professions in many languages, is slowly being phased out in favour of more diversity, despite the grammatical and biological genders being different.
Personally, I'm all for it. More accurate descriptions don't hurt.
That's... not what I'm saying
There's no docteuse
Or doctrice
Not yet, though there could be one day. That's what I'm saying, anyhow.
While 'professeure' exists, 'professeur' works just as well for male and female teachers, for example.
Having a similar distinction elsewhere doesn't surprise me.
