Bagarrer = to strive, to struggle, to fight for something.

Se bagarrer:

Je me suis bagarré avec mon frère (I had a fight with my brother)
Bagarrer:
J'ai dû bagarrer pour faire changer la note (I had to fight to have the grade changed)
Ils ont bagarré avec les flics (they fought/struggled with the police)
Se bagarrer feels more reciprocal while bagarrer essentially just goes in one way.
I don't doubt some people mix them.
