Please be patient
Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Pro tip: you can rename the thread title with `.tr <thread name>`
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
Son train a eu du retard.
His/her train has had some delay.
Otherwise you might see:
Son train avait été en retard.
So you use en retard if it's être, but du retard if it's avoir?
Otherwise it would be "their train had late"
"en retard" is an adverb (late), "du retard"/"un retard" is a noun (delay)
Okay, this distinction explains why être works with en retard and why avoir works with du retard
