Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
Also, does this make sense:
"Alors, une fois l'apogée atteinte, il faut soit subvertir les attentes, soit peut-être trouver un moyen de rendre le comment plus important que le quoi"
I'm trying to say "So once you've reached the climax, you need to either subvert expectations or find a way to make the how more important than the what"
the last sentence is supposed to mean "make the how in how things happen more important than what specific events occur"
Idk if subvertir is used much. The fact that i speak english makes it obvious but idk how common this is in french.
Also my punctuation is shit dont pay attention to it
Rendre plus important la façon dont les choses se déroulent par rapport aux événements eux-mêmes.
If u want to go with this one
Using apogée alone i find it a bit weird maybe im stupid? I think apogée de l'histoire is better, or u can say point culminant de l'histoire
merci!!
Alors, une fois le point culminant de l’histoire atteint, il faut soit bouleverser les attentes du lecteur, soit trouver un moyen de rendre la manière dont les évènements se déroulent plus importante que les évènements en eux-mêmes.
we don't use "subvertir" a lot
plus importante => plus captivante/plus centrale ?
oo thanks I like that suggestion, I wasn't even really sure what I meant in English haha
en eux-mêmes is probably better formulated than what i suggested yeah good idea
no problem
i'm not even sure if "en eux-mêmes" is correct
i hesitated with "eux-mêmes" alone
I think both are correct, en eux-mêmes sounds more literary?
Im guessing she's doing for an essay or smth so its probably a good idea to sound more literary than neutral
I was just trying to tell my gf something
but I was definitely going for an essayish tone because I have to practice more formal writing for the DELF
your gf is learning French too ? :o
yep we started learning together
Dunno what delf is but acronyms are always bad news, good luck
it's a test de compétences linguistiques françaises, it's required for various things like immigration and going to a francophone university. I'm trying to get B2 certified so i can finish my degree in a francophone university in Montréal
Hard to gauge someone's level from only writing but even if you're not all the way there yet (maybe u are idk) you're doing enough effort to get there eventually so im sure it'll be fine
The only problems with what you wrote was writing à les instead of aux
But the anglicisme are normals
French students learning english will write stuff like i propose instead of i suggest because of proposer for example lol
yeah derp 2.5 years of studying and I still make this mistake every once in a while
I think I'm already at B2 but I want to make triple sure because the test costs like $300
I don't wanna have to take it twice
Yeah no i get it lol ive done toeic for c1 too which is an english certificate so i get u
Even sometimes the problem in these tests are not even the language itself but concentration (for me)
Like u have a hearing test which has a way too fast pace or smth
Yeah i get you, or they make you do math or pose a logic problem or something totally not language related, or they don't give you time to read the multiple choice responses before they start reading the passage
Language skills are definitely only part of it, you gotta study the test format itself
Yeah exaaactly. During toeic, they do like 20 hearing questions where they play an audio, then u have like 30 seconds to answer the related question but sometimes u dont have time to read the question so u didnt pick up on what u needed to hear and so on
Anyway good luck on that
On that? Idk
