Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
if i understood that right, look up indirect transitive verbs
liste de verbes transitifs indirects
You understood it correctly, but is there a famous list that French students use to get used to the prepositions? Like, to know that you "as besoin DE qlqc", you "parle DE..."
Many French verbs require a specific preposition in front of a noun or infinitive. Which preposition depends on the verb before it, not whatever comes after.
You can also buy (or borrow from a library if available) a book for this, there are a few choices
I don’t think there’s an ‘ultimate list’ since prepositions are an innate trait of a verb and there’s simply too many indirect verbs to keep track
Plus, a verb may have different prepositions depending on prefixes like « se fier à / se méfier de » or even take both an indirect and direct object like « envoyer qqch à qqn »
At least when it comes to verbs that take a different auxiliary verb like partir, aller, etc., there’s not a lot of them so you can make some lists out of them
