Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
"quel est votre nom" is just not an idiomatic way to ask someone their name, it feels like you're filling a form and asking a last name for information
"s'appeler" is the just way to go for how someone is named in French

also, another difference.
you used "vous" with "quel est votre nom ?"
and "tu" with "comment t'appelles-tu ?"
even outside of the "nom" vs "s'appeler" distinction, this changes the way you're speaking to the person
if you're aware of the "tu" vs "vous" distinction
