no... "j'ai beau menti" doesn't really make sense
"avoir beau" is an expression that gets followed by an infinitive and means something quite different

Can I ask another question about this? Is it always followed by "mais"?
Is this correct, if I say "Je lui beau parler mais il ne m'écoute pas."
Okay studying up a bit more I see "avoir" must be in the sentence... so I can say "J'ai beau lui parler, il ne m'écoute pas"
