Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
Hi, do you know how to conjugate verbs based on subjects?
Mostly yea, doing some practice questions now but the first one included a name and it threw me off hehe
if you were to replace that name by a pronoun, what would it be?
He/il, omg that simple? Hehe Sorry, I thought I read something about subjects agreeing with nouns but I've been looking and unsure what I was thinking ๐ค
Thank you ๐
yes, exactly ! It works not only with names, but also any nouns
James => il
Lucie => elle
la chaise (the chair) => elle
mes amis (my friends) => ils
Aaah thank you! that makes sense ๐
Does (my friends)/ils, change if you know they are all females? And if you don't know is it best to use ils? or can you also use elles?
"ami" takes a -e in the feminine "amie"
if a group is mixed, you'd say "amis" and agree in the masculine. If it's just women, "amies" and agree in the feminine.
While masc/fem has little importance for conjugation in your context, it is important for things like adjectives
ex: mon ami est grand / mon amie est grande
