Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
It could work for a generic "you", English uses a whole bunch of different pronouns where french uses "on"

For "on" (an impersonal subject) it could be "they", "someone", "you", "we", "one", even "I"
Just depends on the context
And how the person feels like expressing it
French sometimes uses other pronouns too, but not as much
Or are you referring to what a generic "you" is?
That's like if you're giving a scenario and saying like "when someone is nice to you, you should always thank them", you(heh) could be talking directly about the person you're speaking to, but oftentimes you're just referring to "someone" in general, not specifically the person you're speaking to
