Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
Inversion’s something you use to ask questions
You use inversion in questions, simple as.
Tu when speaking to one person (informally) and vous when speaking to several persons or to one person you respect. But you do not always know which it is from these exercises.
Yes the questions are vague so I wouldn’t blame you if you used tu
Oh wait, the exercise does point if the you used here is informal. Then use tu. if it doesn't, use vous.
Oh yeah lmao didn’t notice that
Again, that's assuming the plural vous isn't used.
The instructions said « traduire toutes les phrases suivantes en utilisant vous et l’inversion si nécessaire »
Oohh oops I didn’t read that haha
But can’t you also not use inversions? Like you can say
Tu peux manger? Instead of Peux-tu manger? Right? So is it just if you want to use it/in formal settings?
Right
There are three ways to ask a question in French. You have the formal inversion, the neutral est-ce que, the informal intonation.
Ooohh okk but you don’t necessarily NEED to do it?
It’s contextual
Oh thank you
Written letter to the Mayor? Inversion
Speaking to your boss? Est-ce que
Speaking or writing an SMS to your mates? Est-ce que or intonation
is the exercises something i can access on the internet? would love the practice
It’s from the book Practice Makes Perfect Complete French Grammar :))
