Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
No, you don't have to. Do you do this when reading in your native language?
Now, it can be helpful to do from time to time, intentionally studying them has merit. But just reading can help you internalize these structures if you're understanding what's going on
so i try to naturally perceive those things slowly like how i would learn my native language?
I mean, it all depends what you're trying to do. I don't think it's the best way to learn new grammatical structures, but it's great for comprehension/fluidity/putting it all together. If you want to go through line-by-line and say "ok what grammar things are going on" the book's gonna be a real unenjoyable slog. So think about it as much as you need to to understand, but no more than that, in my opinion
like i try to go with the flow and slowly learn those structures? is this what you mean?
You should use another resource to learn grammar, imo
i think it depends how much you read/listen to french
what do you recommend using to learn grammar?
if you get a LOT of input you can just study a bit of grammar and then internalize through practice
uhhhh
lawlessfrench articles
I used Kwiziq, but it's paid and not for everyone
im a native idrk
LawlessFrench + Kwiziq + asking questions here if you see something and don't understand why it is the way it is, or if you're trying to word something and aren't sure how
idk i do listen to quite bit and understand lil but i rarely speak it
Kwiziq is technically paid but you can use the majority of the functionalities for free, and after doing a certain number of quizzes you can get a week trial without needing to input payment info or anything
ill check this out thanks 🙂

to speak it i think you need a good idea of how the rules work so you can actually pick the right words
depends if you're asking ppl to correct you or not
Honestly, a lot of it for speaking is just getting out there and speaking
Everything else is a lot easier/less intimidating to practice
im not really comfortable in making sentence cuz like everytime i would reply in english
do you recommend watching a series and practicing that?
that's valuable input too yeah
how do you practice a series?
i mean it's only listening practice
Shadowing, maybe?
but it is pretty great bc you get visual clues etc
yea
ohh then idk
Ultimately any interaction with the language will help you. Find what you like the most and do that
im trying to get a 5 on ap french next year ðŸ˜
I don't know what that means, but I believe in you. Just get out there and do french things
kinda its a college credit
ohh
nah AP, c'est un type de cours en amérique du nord, j'en ai déjà entendu parlé
mais j'en sais pas plus que ça
Advanced Placement (AP) courses were created by the College Board, an US non-profit organization that connects high school students to colleges and universities, and assists in their preparation for higher education.
yeah
The AP Program offers college-level courses and exams that you can take in high school.
I ended up with like 16 college credits because of AP French and went with that as a major, was very convenient
-# 16 credits could've been a whole 3-year degree at my university (0.5/1.0 credits per one/two semester course)
you might need to accept that you're going to make mistakes
i have this problem all the time where my standards get too high for myself and i start worrying about making mistakes and freeze up
then i have to remind myself that I'm just a learner and my french is far from perfect and I'm bound to make mistakes. plus everyone here knows that and doesn't expect my french to be perfect. that helps me put myself out there better (in this server particularly)
Something that helped me was to thank anyone that gave me corrections (so long as the corrections were accurate of course)
It helped turn the frustration into something more positive & seeing them happy to have helped made me properly recognize that they were doing it with love, to help, not just to make fun of me or put me down or anything
And would often encourage them to help more
