Please be patient

Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.

Pro tip: you can rename the thread title with `.tr <thread name>`

Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

Yes

#

There’s really no alternative

#

It’s just how the language works

#

Sure if the noun is people then you can switch lequel with qui but lequel is the standard way of writing indirect relative pronouns

As a french person honestly I never use those with my friend or family. I think instead of: “le garçon auquel je parlais..” you can just say “le garçon à qui je parlais”. But there’s more examples🤗

Or are you telling me that you would rather say « La lettre à qui j’ai répondu est venue de mon amie » instead of « La lettre à laquelle j’ai répondu est venue de mon amie » ?

There’s exceptions ofc

I just showed an example

Yes that’s why I did mention using « qui » for people but using « lequel » is the standard way of using indirect relative pronouns

It’s fine, just be a bit clearer in future because there are cases where we do use auquel and since the question was about using it in general, it should be clear what it is
