French isn't English. The form of a possessive adjective depends on the possessed noun's gender or number.

Son/sa/ses is a problematic one for beginners so I can't fault you on that.

I've seen people having no problems with mon/ma and ton/ta yet tripping up on son/sa. Because, you know, all three follow the same logic.
