Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
what part of it sounds idiotic to you ?
but yes it is true
la Suisse, the country
le Suisse/la Suissesse, the inhabitant
π je ne pense pas que cβest stupide
Thank you for letting me know. I will certainly remember this exception. π
Merci beaucoup .
do you mean expection as in the nationality is the same as the country's name ?
No, that's pretty common; however, I'm not sure whether using "le" to refer to a male person of a nation and "la" for the exact same word when referring to the country instead is standard to be fair. π
I am not sure, I don't think so. If that's the case, then everything is already in order.
π because women are great leaders
it's probably not a clean 50/50 ratio but countries can be both genders
they can be plural too of course
it's not common at all in french actually, I just double checked and Switzerland is the only country where the adjective is the same as the noun
Spot on. I was utterly mistaken.
Many thanks for taking the time to help. π
la suissesse

Pareil
J'habite pas loin de la suisse alors je l'entend sans doute plus souvent que d'autres
