Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

Métier refers to your profession / your craft / your trade and focuses on the skills, experience and perhaps some amount of passion/interest needed to do it.
Emploi is more of a neutral administrative term, it refers to a job position or to employment as a concept.

If your area of expertise is to be a mechanic, you can say that your métier is "mécanicien" while at the same time being jobless and searching for an emploi.
