Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
I’ve been seeing this kind of constructions in novels
This is Molière
Normally the if clause would take imperfect
and there would be no “que”
Here both the if clause and the main clause use conditional
I'm curious why you relate this to an if clause?
I don't think this could be compared to one at all
It seems like it means
If i saw them die I would care as much as I care about my friendships
I found this bit
How I read it, essentially:
"And he detaches my soul from all friendships
And I would see brother, children, mother, and wife die
For which I would worry as much as anything else[little]"
That makes sense and it feels weaker than just a straight up if-then clause
"amitiés" here seems to just mean close relationships
this is Orgon doing a big speech about how Tartuffe is a very devout holy man that turned him from worldly sins etc etc
Yeah that makes sense
thank you for the clarifications
