There's an implied "s'arrêta" before "de parler". This kind of thing is common in french literature. This sentence means well "The king stopped suddenly, and the deer stopped speaking".

Well, i made some research on this text and I mistook in my analysis : so this could means "Le roi s'arrêta net, et le cerf parla ..." instead.
So the king stopped, and the dear speaks to the king

yeah i listen to a lot of finnish music for language learning too and there's a ton of freedom with the word order for poetic purposes but the actual sentence structures still retain the grammar usually

Mettre les guillemets ouvrants (et le deux-points) après Grand roi n'a pas de sens.
