Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
développant = qui développe
present participle
same goes for « hébergeant »
regarding the « entre nous » part, French simply distinguishes individuals and groups
Okay imagine I said this: ‘Five of us will work’.
Do I mean five members within a group or five groups?
In English, both readings are true and it’s up to context to distinguish it
huh? i’d never say ‘five of us’ to mean ‘five organisations’
In French, that meaning would be distinguished: « Cinq de nous travailleront » would mean five groups but « cinq d’entre nous » would be five members of a group
It makes more sense when you think of it as a sort of multidivisional meeting
- cinq de nous: five groups of us
- cinq d’entre nous: five of us
So not just you and your division but also other divisions
It’s the ‘us’ part that’s causing the difference
Is ‘us’ aimed towards one group or all groups?
i’m guessing ‘us’ refers to a larger group that all said groups belong to in the former
and just people in the latter
Exactly
say you’re at a meeting with various divisions at Company A
yeah us is like a larger group that the speaker belongs to, and they come in groups, and there’ll be five of them
and you’re saying i’d say « cinq de nous » in that case
In that meeting, there’s Programming, there’s UX Design, there’s Marketing, etc., and you’re, let’s say, Finance. When you say ‘us’, do you mean just your division of Finance or all divisions present in that meeting?
in « d’entre nous » it’s your division, and « de nous » it’s all that are present?
Cinq de nous = Five divisions in that meeting
Cinq d’entre-nous = Five people in your division
Right
de nous is more general than d’entre nous
Yes please wait
oh sorry i didn’t mean to rush you
there’s absolutely no rush, take all the time you need!!
i appreciate your help regardless
Je n’ai pas beaucoup aimé écrire sur ce que je considérais comme étant essentiellement une ressource communautaire et aussi de parler de mon entreprise
'I've never really liked writing on what I considered as being essentially a community resource and also (write) about talking about my company.'
I think that the writer is shy at using open-source stuff while also talking about a company which doesn't always prefer open-source stuff
the hosted git part looks okay
