Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
J'ai eu une pomme = I had an apple at a point in the past.
J'avais une pomme = I had an apple for a while in the past, I used to have it.
J'avais eu une pomme = I had an apple, something happening in the past before another event that is also in he past.
Sorry, I don't mean to be annoying but what do you mean? On that last one
A past occurrence happening before another past occurrence.
Ex: My friend finished the work [something in the past] that I had begun [something else further in the past]. The second part would be in pluperfect in French.
