en can't replace a verb
so with "avoir besoin" it'd be "tu n'as pas besoin de le faire"

No, no, it can totally do it as long as the preposition is a part of the argument

« refuser, décider, cesser » all require « de » when followed by an infinitive but its core argument doesn't have that preposition. « J'ai refusé la proposition, il a déjà décidé l'option la plus convenable, ce sont nous qui avons cessé votre politique folle ».

Compare that with « avoir besoin » which does have that:
« J'ai besoin de toi, il a besoin de notre proposition, nous avons besoin d'effectuer ça »

Otherwise, « Je suis arrivé à faire la tâche » wouldn't have been able to be replaced by « J'y suis arrivé » yet it can be
