Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
thank you for saving my life
not "thank you saved my life"
infinitive is introduced by merci de, no reason for it be conjugated
I’d say it’s more “thank you for having saved my life”
note that “merci de me sauver la vie” would be a request “(please) save my life”
It's not a typical sentence, there's no subject or main verb. I would say it's a fixed expression.
There's maybe an implied subject of "je" along the lines of
Je te remercie de m'avoir sauvé la vie
but merci isn't a verb so i don't really know how to classify the sentence.
It’s not conjugated because there is no subject
Sweet, thanks!
This structure will appear when you need a past tense verb but there’s no subject.
« Après avoir fini son travail, il part. (After having finished his work, he leaves.) »
« Je crois t’avoir déjà envoyé la lettre. (I believe to have already sent you the letter) »
