Please be patient

Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.

Pro tip: you can rename the thread title with `.tr <thread name>`

Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

Left sheet:
For 8-3, you wrote C but circled A. One of them is correct. Which one?
For 9-3, you did it wrong. Do you know what "tous les deux jours" means?
Right sheet:
For 12-4, it seems like you didn't follow the instruction properly.

autumn lagoon
#

Is 8-3 c?

blissful steeple
autumn lagoon
#

so it is ACCC?

blissful steeple
#

Yep.

autumn lagoon
#

Thank u!

#

do u mind if i send u to this worksheet again in abt 10 minutes?

blissful steeple
#

What do you mean, send me to the worksheet?

autumn lagoon
#

like ss and show u it again

blissful steeple
#

Then sure.

autumn lagoon
#

thank u sm

#

im at a 89 rn so im tryna raise it

#

for 12-4 are all of them wrong?

blissful steeple
autumn lagoon
#

oh thank u

#

lmk if u cant see it

blissful steeple
#

9-3 is still wrong, you have to use the expression between brackets in your answer.

autumn lagoon
#

do u mind if i ask u what those 2 are since its due in 10 minutes

short grotto
#

9-3 is also wrong because you lacked the reflexive pronoun

#

« Je ne les lave pas tous les soirs »

#

(That's what you wrote, not the right answer)

blissful steeple
autumn lagoon
#

Would i have to conjucate whats iside the brackets?

short grotto
#

No, that's just to complete the answer

blissful steeple
#

Plus, "tous les deux jours" isn't even a verb. I mean, how are you supposed to conjugate that?

short grotto
#

Example
Question: Est-ce que tu te lèves à 6h chaque jour ? (Tu te lèves à 8h pendant le week-end)
Answer: Non, je me lève à 6h pendant les jours de semaine. Pendant le week-end, je me lève à 8h.

The bolded part serves to include the words enclosed in the brackets.

#

Actually, by that logic, 9-2 is also wrong

#

because the question is « se raser en premier » but the answer in the brackets is « se brosser les dents »

autumn lagoon
#

Could i say Oui, Il se brosser les dents en premier chaque martin? For 9-2

short grotto
#

Also, you need to conjugate that verb

autumn lagoon
#

Non, Il se ne brosse pas le dents en premier chaque matin

short grotto
# short grotto Example Question: Est-ce que tu te lèves à 6h chaque jour ? (Tu te lèves à 8h pe...

Okay so I'm going to explain the logic of 9-2 and 9-3. You have a question and what the answer should be within said brackets. In the example I wrote here, the question is about you waking up at 06.00 every morning but the answer is about you waking up at 08.00 in the weekends. Since the words in the brackets do not conform to the question, I answered with « non » because I don't wake up at 06.00 every morning only during weekdays. I then added the sentence in the brackets (bold) as additional information.

#

Let's look at 9-2.
« Est-ce que Youssef se rase en premier chaque matin ? (se brosser les dents) »
The verb in the question is « se raser » while the verb in the answer is « se brosser (les dents) ». Obviously, they don't match, so we answer it in the negative. First, you explain that Youssef doesn't shave every morning, he brushes his teeth instead.

#

Read my example again

autumn lagoon
#

ohh that makes a lot of sense

#

so according to the logic it woukd be Non, Il se rase pas en premier, se brosster les dents?

short grotto
#

Close!

#

Il ne se rase pas en premier, mais il se brosse les dents

#

Don't forget to conjugate your verbs

#

The reason why I repeat the subject again is because we're adding another clause as seen with that conjunction « mais (but) »

autumn lagoon
#

Ohhhh haha thank u! I was just abt to ask what mais meant

#

Would 9-3 also be negative?

short grotto
#

Look at the verb in the question and the verb in the brackets

#

Are they the same?

#

Or at least

autumn lagoon
#

okay so that would also be negative..?

short grotto
#

Is there a difference?

#

Just anything else

autumn lagoon
#

got it!

short grotto
#

The answer has an adverb of time, « tous les deux jours » so you look at any adverb of time in the question

#

We see « tous les soirs »

#

Do they match up?

autumn lagoon
#

Yes

#

because they both kinda include time?

short grotto
#

Read again

#

tous les deux jours = every two days
tous les soirs = every evening

#

Still believe they're the same?

autumn lagoon
#

no, sorry

short grotto
#

Right, they don't

#

so what's the correct answer?

#

What's the full sentence?

autumn lagoon
#

Non, Je ne lave les cheveux tous les soirs, mais tous les deux jours

short grotto
#

Close!

#

You're missing the reflexive pronoun and the negative adverb

#

It's not « laver les cheveux », it's « se laver les cheveux »

#

Also, remember that negation is a two-parter; it's not just « ne », it's « ne … pas, ne … jamais, etc »

autumn lagoon
#

dang

#

okay so the correct sentence would be Non, je ne lave pas les cheveux tous les soirs, tous les deux jours

short grotto
#

Again, you're missing the reflexive pronoun

#

You got the negation right though

#

Calm down, take a breath, read slowly

autumn lagoon
#

what would the reflexive pronoun be..?

short grotto
#

You've been doing that this entire time

#

Je me lève, tu te lèves, il se lève, nous nous levons, vous vous levez, ils se lèvent

#

There, that's the reflexive pronoun

#

When an object pronoun is the same person as the subject pronoun, it's reflexive

autumn lagoon
#

oh sorry!

short grotto
#

Je me lève
Je = first person
me = first person
Conclusion: reflexive

Je te lève
Je = first person
te = second person
Conclusion: NOT reflexive

autumn lagoon
#

Okay! I think I know the last one

#

Non, je ne me lave les cheveux tous les soirs, mais tous les deux jours

short grotto
#

Calm down

#

Reread everything

#

Did you notice what’s wrong here?

#

you got the reflexive right

#

But you’re missing something else

#

Hint: ||Why is « ne » alone? Negation is a two-parter, remember?||

autumn lagoon
#

Non, je ne me pas lave les cheveux, mais tous les deux jours.

short grotto
#

The second part of a negation is an adverb, and adverbs tend to come after a verb

short grotto
#

Calm down and take a breath, reread your sentence before posting because you could’ve got that the second part is misplaced

#

You even got it right in 9-1:
« Non, nous ne nous maquillons pas avant de nous habiller. »

#

That’s the right position

autumn lagoon
#

Okay.. im kinda confused..

short grotto
autumn lagoon
#

it is non, je ne me lave pas cheveux tous les soirs, mais tous les deux

short grotto
#

See this is why you have to reread because every time you get one bit right, something else goes wrong

#

You got the reflexive pronoun, good

#

You got the negation, good

#

But why is the adverb missing in the second part? « tous les deux » ? Tous les deux what?

autumn lagoon
#

jours

short grotto
#

Good, so the complete sentence is?

autumn lagoon
#

Non, je ne me lave pas cheveux tous les soirs, mais tous les deux jours.

short grotto
#

Finally you got it!

autumn lagoon
#

THANK U SOOOOO MUCH

short grotto
#

I’m not being deliberately hard on you here, you really have to calm down and pay attention

autumn lagoon
#

all good, i just get kinda nervous when i write in french haha

short grotto
#

Calm down, take a breath

#

Being calm and coolheaded is key
