I'm no expert but i think it's because of the way the globe is split up by longitudes in fusiform slices
a fuseau is fusiform
so something like this
no idea if that's the actual reason but it's my theory on the matter
it's definitely (probably) that but i can't help but point out how effed up the actual map of time zones is compared to this idealized representation ðŸ˜
pacific countries being 24h apart while being some hundred km away from each other
this part of the map is so cursed
they have a +13:45 time zone
+13 is weird enough
theres even a +14 elsewhere
