Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

avec du fromage sounds like you’re eating a regular sandwich with some cheese on the side

you could also just say "un sandwich fromage" (although much more common would be "fromage beurre" or "jambon fromage beurre")

this way of referring to sandwiches sounds specifically commercial to me, like if you are ordering or buying a sandwich.
I don't think anyone would say that about a unique homemade sandwich. Unless it's a special type of sandwich, like the iconic the "jambon-beurre".
jambon-emmental, thon-crudités...
and I feel like it sounds jarring with one word.
