Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
« Voici ma toute première médaille de karate. [Je l'ai eue quand ?] j'avais huit, neuf ans, dans le championnat de la Guadeloupe. J'ai fait deuxième. J'ai raté la finale. »
'Here is my very first karate medal. [I got it when ?] I was eight, nine years old, in the championship of Guadaloupe. I got second place. I failed the finals.'
Oh ok so he did get 2nd the Guadeloupe championship?
Alright that makes much more sense and the medal he is showing is from his first karate tournament? Thx for all the help btw very appreciated
No, just his very first medal
He didn’t give any indication that the championship was his first tournament, just that it was during said championship that he got that medal
It could very well be that he had participated in other competitions before but didn’t get a medal for them
Yeah I’m guessing that the medal he is showing is from another competition as I’m guessing getting into the Guadeloupe championship is very hard and difficult so that’s probably not his first medal
He might be showing a medal from when he got a significant place
As in, perhaps previous medals or trophies were, I don’t know, participation ones? Or at least he didn’t get top 3 but was 4th or 5th place
Oh alright I see, but the medal he is showing is not from the Guadeloupe championship correct? Just confirming and thanks for all this help so far
It is from the championship
Alright now I’m confused, because that medal looks gold so that’s why I’m guessing it was from another tournament and talking about 2 different medals and tournaments (his first one and the Guadeloupe championship) but I’m guessing that’s the medal he got 2nd from at the Guadeloupe championship and that it’s his first medal?
In the extract you've had, a golden medal was shown and then he says that thing about the very first medal
Therefore, the medal shown is his very first which he got in the championship
I don't know how it works in karate but usually top three gets a medal, not just the first place. There might be a distinction between medals with gold for first, silver for second, bronze for third, but there might also not be. In a lot of competitions, even national ones, the top three may be given gold-plated medals
At least that's the case where I'm from in Indonesia. There was a national competition that I participated in. I didn't get top three but my friend got third place and he got a gold-plated medal
Thus to me, it being his second place medal from the championship doesn't ring any alamrs
Oh wait I think I like the transcript is wrong if your purely going off of that text I pasted because I’m the transcript is not 100% accurate and missed a lot of words, that’s why I linked the video so I think from watching 2:15-2:35 you can get a better idea for what Im saying and thinking about
Oh I see then
No I watched the video
The extract you’ve had = 2.15-2.35 of the video
As in I didn’t watch the whole thing, just the part you indicated
