Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
my AZERTY laptop is broke
Hahahaha
I highly recommend against using the france azerty keyboard unless you're passionate about that specific keyboard for some reason
I can't type certain characters
but I HAVE BETTER !
Yeah, azerty can't type like half of the things french uses
no i talk about my laptop
Le moyen le plus facile de taper les accents est d'installer une disposition de clavier mieux adaptée à ça.
The easiest way to type accents is to install a keyboard layout designed for this.
Some good options // Quelques options conseillées :
-# How to install and change keyboard layouts // Comment installer et changer de disposition :
-# Windows, macOS, Android (Gboard), iOS
I highly recommend one of the first two
The third is okay and relatively easy to learn but not practical for long term usage imo and lacks œ (not sure about guillemets but maybe those too?)
The first two have every symbol and accent you could ever need in french
How do they differ each other
CMS I recommend if you're really into french and don't mind learning a handful of new symbol positions (the basic qwerty letters do not change, just symbols)
Qwerty-fr is good if you don't want to change anything you already know about your keyboard, all of the information is in addition to the basic US layout
US INTL is similar to qwerty-fr but relies on using symbols to represent the accents, so to type « mangé » you would type « mang'e »
This can be a bit annoying for example in words like « c'est » where if you don't type « c' est » you end up with « cést »
i'll install QWERTY-FR after because it looks good
QWERTY-fr is sooooo guuuud
US International FTW
All you have to do is hit the space after typing those punctuations
So «C'est» would be C + ' + (space) + est
Give me US International any day
Yes, but it's significantly slower than not having to do that
US international is a good way to get introduced to other keyboards, but it's not great
CMS may be faster (I wouldn't know)
but qwerty FR is great because you can type as if it were just a normal qwerty keyboard
BUT you also have accents by using the right-alt
I've heard k and w are rarely used letters in french
