Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
you might want to
- give the sample sentences you found it from / say what you're trying to say
- wait to have someone double check my answer
if someone says sometthing that is acerbe, it would be a hurtful remark, that's done with malice
if someone says something that is tranchant, it would be a divisive remark.
they can have mutual grounds if put in a venn diagram but they don't necessarily have to be mutually inclusive
i mean i did look it up on word reference, they aren't by any means low level french words but the meanings seemed different in terms of English just using one word to mean multiple things
i just wanted maybe a native's eye view for reassurance, tho ima give more info ofc, thx abunch
so acerbe is only poetic in the sense of a remark being sharp/stern manner while tranchant is both poetic and literal @buoyant swan
