Depends on the subject
Il est né (masculine singular)
Ils sont nés (masculine plural)
Elle est née (feminine singular)
Elles sont nées (feminine plural)
Can it mean a whole other word
In French, adjectives (and past participles) have multiple forms, based on gender and number. You have to change the adjective based on these factors.
Another example:
Il est petit / He's short
Ils sont petits / They're short (men or mixed group)
Elle est petite / She's short
Elles sont petites / They're short (women)
