It's fairly word for word :
continuer = to continue
nourrir = to nourish
ambition = ambition
chère = dear (can also be 'expensive' I'm gonna guess 'dear')
à ses yeux = in his eyes (expression meaning 'in his view, in his opinion')

The outlier here is « surtout (especially, above all) ». French adverbs are placed after the verb whereas English adverbs are placed before.
