Please be patient

Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.

Pro tip: you can rename the thread title with `.tr <thread name>`

Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

I think there is no easy way to remember them, just practice?

There are patterns you can use

#

regular -er verbs are the most common verbs for instance, and share these endings in present tense

#

you also have regular -ir verbs, as well as various groups of -re verbs. Some of the most common verbs in French are very irregular though

There is a rule that says: -re verbs get the -u ending in Passé Composé, for example: attendre - attendu
But with “dire” it is “dit”. Is it an exception?

dire is irregular
but -re verbs are a wild bunch. It's not one big pattern, but more like a bunch of subgroups. The largest one being 20% of -re verbs at most

#

dire -> dit
prendre -> pris
perdre -> perdu
boire -> bu
cuire -> cuit
naître -> né
...

some of the learners may have a few tips & tricks to remember specific tenses or so, feel free to exchange with everyone

I'd recommend getting present tense down pat before moving on to mastering other tenses since present is the most complicated

#

And is used in some capacity for most other conjugations
