Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
Il/Elle is for adjectives (except if the adjective is nonspecified), and Ce is for nouns or any other situation. (Thats the simple answer.)
For example:
Il est professeur (professeur acts as an adjective)
Ce plat est dégoûtant, il est dégoûtant.
La pomme est bonne, elle est bonne.
C'est une belle personne.
C'est une grande maison.
C'est un fourmis.
However, if i were by a waterfall and i thought to myself, "That's beautiful," I would say "C'est beau". That's because the noun isn't specified.
I wouldn't use the second example, « ce plat », because that's a demonstrative adjective (ce/cet/cette/ces) and is unrelated
Also, « c'est une fourmi / ce sont des fourmis », feminine noun
