Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
they're pretty synonymous
but rivière is technically a tributary
so generally if it's big: fleuve
if it's smaller: rivière
if it's tiny: ruisseau
what about a ruissellement?
Rousseau c’était un philosophe
Tu penses à « ruisseau »
??
It was « rousseau » when I replied to you, the edit must've not appeared when I did
Anyway, « ruissellement » is a 'surface runoff' which is analogised to a temporary brook/stream
« ruisseler » means to stream, to flow, add the suffix « -ment (state/result of a verb) » to get « ruissellement / ruissèlement »
