Please be patient

Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.

Pro tip: you can rename the thread title with `.tr <thread name>`

Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

I think "patrie d'adoption" is more correct

proven atlas
#

Why would it be oxymoronic, though ? a patriot is precisely someone who adopted a country as his own.

Ah, I see.

#

I think it's fine, to me patrie has a very personal meaning, its definition is something that only speaks to your heart. It's relatively close to the word home.

#

So you can adopt a place as your patrie of love, as a cultural tradition, or even as a simple localization, I don't see any issue with that.

#

You don't have to be native to be a patriot.

#

Personally Patrie adoptée doesn't bother me, but the correct form would be La patrie que j'ai adoptée. It doesn't go very well as an adjective epithète. here.

#

thats the context so im not sure if that structure still works their

josephine being josephine baker

(I understood it. 😌)

#

Perhaps you could rather say sa patrie de cœur.

#

There's also a couple of mistakes, if you want me to go through some of them.

C'est une grande tombe ==> it's fine, but you could say c'est un tombeau

qui ont bien ==> qui ont beaucoup

le culture ==> culture is feminine

même l'histoire ==> la société française, la culture ou encore l'histoire

Quelques gens qui sont inhumés là-dedans ==> Parmi les gens qui y sont inhumés (y replace "là-dedans, your sentence was grammatical, but not very natural)

C'est l'endroit où on peut honorer ==> C'est l'endroit où on honore (it's not where it could happen, it is whre it happens regardless)

ses actions ==> leurs actions

toutes façons de la france ==> La France entière (France in its whole)

i thought tombeau was more like the gravestone itself

#

but thank u for the other corrections

#

i was deffo struggling wiht the inhumé sentence

proven atlas

It can be an individual gravestone, or be seen more like a mausoleum, but with a more sacralized dimension.
