Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
conjugaison
Because the action is incomplete. There's no way to tell if it was something that occured between a specific start and end date. You might still be downloading such videos to this day.
Actually, without any context, the conditional can work.
« Quand nous étions pétits, nous allions au parc pour jouer au foot. »
« Si je pouvais revenir au passé, je ne téléchargerais pas de films illégalement. »
The imperfect actually implies finality in that you don't do it anymore. If I were to say, « nous allions au parc », I would be implying that I no longer do so now but back then I did it often.
The difference then between the passé composé and the imparfait comes down to the habitualness of it. « nous allions au parc » would mean that you went to the park often whereas « nous sommes allés au parc » would mean that you went to the park a few times, not enough for it to be habitual
Merci beaucoup
