Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
"ma femme" would be the default way to say "my wife" and there isn't a slangy or informal equivalent of it
There are plenty of informal terms for a girlfriend and pet names for a female partner (be it a wife or a gf) but I can't think of any specifically for a wife.
Mon épouse also works for a female spouse.
Which defaults to being a wife, I suppose.
Ah ok
"mon épouse" tends towards the other end of the formal-informal spectrum. It sounds deliberately formal/proper
Does 'meuf' only mean woman and not wife in verlan?
correct. Woman or girlfriend, but not wife
True, I misread that part.
you've never heard "ma meuf"?
though it sounds not only informal, but also kind of disrespectful
Did you mean to ask me?
"ma meuf" doesn't mean "my wife", it just means "my girl" in a kind of disrespectful way. Which could in theory be your wife, but could also just be your girlfriend (much more likely).
Other than "ma femme" and "mon épouse", I don't think there are other terms that unambiguously mean "my wife".
true
plus i do hope that someone married is mature enough not to call his wife "ma meuf" 😭
