Next, because 'les choses' comes before the auxiliary 'avoir', 'it becomes:

Il a dit qu'il était désolé pour les choses qu'il avait faites.

The past particile 'fait' has to match the gender (une chose) and quantity (les choses), becoming 'faites'.

After the auxiliary:

Il a fait les choses.
Before the auxiliary:
Les choses qu'il a faites.

Or 'avait' here, I suppose.
