Please be patient

Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.

Pro tip: you can rename the thread title with `.tr <thread name>`

Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

yes

#

j'suis
t'es
t'as

#

but they are much more informal than they are in english

idle wagon
#

well you've only listed the informal contractions

real cloak
#

These are more orals
You probably wont find them in a text

idle wagon
#

there are required contractions
je + ai → j'ai
le + arbre → l'arbre
la + atmosphère → l'atmosphère
que + il → qu'il
si + il → s'il
etc.

These contractions are obligatory in all contexts, unlike English contractions which are always optional and are generally discouraged in formal texts

broken valve
#

J’peux, j’veux, j’sais

#

Tu es = t’es
Tu as = t’as

There is also a category of informal contractions
which reflect how the words are actually pronounced, but you won't find in formal texts (although you will certainly find them on things like Discord, emails to friends, texts, etc.)
The examples given by Pharma and Krayken above fall into this category

true

#

they are so natural i didn't even think of them as contractions

#

btw the actual word seem to be elision

idle wagon
#

I'd still call it a contraction lol, but yup

idle wagon
#

^ this is what Lawless is calling contractions, but for me I'd call them merged forms, but w/e

#

elision (imo) is a type of contraction

hot python
#

thats what they also say

real cloak
idle wagon
#

but at the end of the day it's just terminology, regardless the reality of what happens doesn't change
