Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
there are two ways:
- like you guessed, we can say "3 sur 4" or "72 sur 93"
- use words dedicated for fractions: 3/4 as "trois quarts", 72/93 as "soixante-douze quatre-vingt-treizièmes"
2nd way is more common with a denominator of 8 or less (I think)
"une demie", "deux tiers", "trois quarts", "quatre cinquièmes", "cinq sixièmes"...
1st way is used for any fraction
thanks. the 2nd way sounds like a nightmare for listening tho 😭
it's like saying "one half", "two thirds", "three fourths"...
once you're used to the words it's not so difficult, I think
at 5 and more you just add "-ième" at the end of the number of the denominator
trois quarts... trois quatre... wouldn't that be the same sounding?
oh
