Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
Learning it with the word in the first place
-tion is fairly reliably feminine
Most other endings have tendencies but aren't super reliable for determining gender
ah okay thank you, i've been learning french for about 1.5 years and always found it difficult to remembe gender XD
learn the words either
- with an indefinite article
- with an adjective if they're typically plural or hard to put with an indefinite article
that's the best way because almost every rule you'll find will have exceptions, nothing's absolutely fixed for this (un squelette...)
mostly feminine words end with e but there are a lot of exceptions as well... ive been learning french for 5 years so ive gotten the hang of some words... the more u practice, the more u will remember the gender of words...
about 25% of nouns ending in 'e' are masculine, so it's not the best metric imo
