Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
Yes
parle, parles, and parlent all sound exactly the same
furthermore, il parle and ils parlent are indistinguishable
“il” and “ils” even sound the same?
yes, the -s il ils/elles is silent
liaison can still occur though
in the sentence "il__s__ ont un chat", you have to pronounce it using a /z/ sound
Ah ok, thanks!
ils ont and ils sont? Are they pronounced the same? If not how do we differenciate it?
No, ils sont is with the /s/ sound (because the verb is sont and starts with this sound) while ils ont is with the /z/ sound (due to the liaison).
