interestingly we say "prendre quelque chose au sérieux"
but we say "prendre quelque chose à la légère"
no idea why the gender changes because in both cases it's just an adjective that's been nominalized

I'd say it's because "le sérieux" is an established noun, and so it's not used as an adjective here.

Yeah, I guess I shouldn't just rely on dictionaries when thinking about these things
I felt like sérieux could be used as a noun, but I looked it up on wiktionary and only the adjective was cited
I've just looked it up in le trésor and there is indeed a description of it as a noun!

in any case, there's no grammatical reason why "prendre quelque chose à la sérieuse" should be forbidden
but it's not what people say lol

It’s just that “à la légère” exists on its own, so I thought that prendre quelquechose à la légère is the “exception” and not the rule

But then I don’t even know how to categorize “prendre quelquechose à cœur”
