Please be patient

Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.

Pro tip: you can rename the thread title with `.tr <thread name>`

Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

It's the preposition used here

Prendre au sérieux

interestingly we say "prendre quelque chose au sérieux"
but we say "prendre quelque chose à la légère"
no idea why the gender changes because in both cases it's just an adjective that's been nominalized

I do…

#

I use a lot of different sources normally

#

in any case, there's no grammatical reason why "prendre quelque chose à la sérieuse" should be forbidden
but it's not what people say lol

gaunt turtle

Guess that’s why you didn’t see it at first

olive jetty
#

oh!

#

indeed

#

normally those translations are all the way at the bottom so I didn't bother scrolling further

Mhm

#

Does an adverbial locution count as a noun? @olive jetty

olive jetty

I don't think so, but what a "noun" even is isn't always clear

gaunt turtle
#

True

#

It’s just that “à la légère” exists on its own, so I thought that prendre quelquechose à la légère is the “exception” and not the rule

#

But then I don’t even know how to categorize “prendre quelquechose à cœur”
