i thought i read sth that with using "il faut" it means a specific item etc

Nope, “il faut” in itself is just the impersonal form of “avoir besoin”

Though

Now that you say it

I would say “j’ai besoin de bottes” but never “il me faut de bottes” (ungrammatical, sounds bad)

But j’ai besoin de bottes is more abstract, I need boots

Not saying how many, which ones, nothing
