Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
chaque can be used with both feminine and masculine nouns right ?
Yes
chacun is for masc plural and chacune for fem plural ?
It's grammatically singular, not plural.
"Chacune de ces robes est belle"
There’s no plural form of "chaque," as it is always singular. "Chacun" and "chacune" refer to individual items or people within a group
i dont understand the second part
i am so confused
this is what i saw 😭
“Chacun/chacune” itself is grammatically singular, as you saw in my example.
But it is used to single out items within a group.
It means “each one” in English and is used the same way.
In French it’s similar to how it works in English if you think about it. "chaque" and "each" are used with singular nouns to refer to individual items within a group. Chaque chien, each dog. You can’t pluralize the word "each".
"Chacun" and "chacune" are like saying "each one" or "each person" in English. The only difference is that in French we specify the noun gender but in English we don’t have to
It implies a group of objects, yes. Like “each one” does.
“Each one of these things”, not “each one of this thing”
Chacune de ces choses
wait sorry
so how do you know when to use chaque vs chacun
“chaque” just means “each”, it goes before a noun
Chaque robe est belle
Each dress is beautiful
It can’t go before anything else
chacune de ces robes est belle
each one of these robes is beautiful
to add the example for chacun.e
