Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
« ...mais personne ne l'a remarqué »
since the negative pronoun « personne » is used, we also need to use the negative adverb « ne »
this happens with all negative constructions
e.g.
- ne... pas
- ne... plus
- ne... jamais
i thought personne by itself meant nobody tho?
or does it literally have to be by itself, eg
qui est ici? -> who is here
personne. ->nobody
?
In a sentence with a verb, “personne” requires “ne”.
don't think of it in terms of direct translation
Je ne vois personne, et personne ne me voit
Regardless of whether it’s an object or a subject
Oui
Used solely it means the negative but in a sentence it requires ne
why is it after personne though 😭
it always goes before the verb
ohhh
regardless of where peresonne is
Because “ne” goes before the verb.
Tu as vu la tour Eiffel ?
Jamais.
okay i understand :] thank you all
Wow i'd never seen it that way
ne?
how you explained it
It was explained differently to me
("always goes before the verb")
how was it explained to you
Just that when the second element of a negation like jamais or rien is the subject of the phrase, it goes to the beginning of the sentence instead of after the verb .
