Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
This is a reflexive verb, « s'entrainer ». Reflexive verbs feature the reflexive pronoun (se/s') which changes according to the subject.
The first nous is the subject pronoun meaning "we" or "us." It indicates who is performing the action (in this case, "we").
The second "nous" is a reflexive pronoun also meaning "ourselves" in this context. It indicates that the action of the verb "entraînons" is being performed by the subject on itself meaning "we train ourselves" or "we train together."
Because the subject is « nous ». A reflexive verb you've probably encountered is « s'appeler » :
« je m'appelle, tu t'appelles, il s'appelle, nous nous appelons, vous vous appelez, ils s'appellent »
But in je m’apple they don’t go je je m’appelle
Because this is a reflexive verb and the reflexive pronoun is built in
Your sentence "où nous nous entraînons ensemble" translates to "where we train together," with the reflexive construction indicating that the training involves the subjects themselves
you do, je me
« me » is the object pronoun of « je », and the object pronoun of « nous » is… « nous »
What’s an object pronoun
I’m just doing French for my exams we don’t study it this in-depth I just learn the vocabulary
The pronoun form of an object.
'I talk to Courtney –> I talk to her'
Is je lève i get up and je me lève im getting up
I advise you to learn all these grammatical words because it’ll be way tougher to learn grammar without knowing what each of them are and why they exist
In our own native languages we don’t need them but when learning a 2nd language
😭😭
The verb « lever » means 'to raise smth' so « je lève » is just 'I raise'. You raise what? Because you need an object, the reflexive is used if you're getting up: « se lever » means 'to get yourself up'
Je me lève –> I'm getting up (lit. I'm getting myself up)
Je lève une chaise –> I lift a chair
Yes, « je lève » is incomplete since there's no object
It's a figurative translation
Oo
because you 'lift' yourself up
« entrainer qqch » means 'to train smth' so it's incomplete
For example, « Le professeur entraine son élève (The professor trains/coaches his pupil) »
Can you use my example
« C'est où nous entrainons nos élèves (It's where we train our pupils) »
« s'entrainer » would then be, 'to train oneself'
I'm using literal translations here which won't really work generally since this concept doesn't exist in English
So is où nous nous entraînons = where we train
And où nous entraînons =??
Ohh right
'Where we train…'
« nous nous entrainons » means you're training YOURSELF
« nous entrainons » means you're training SOMEONE ELSE
Wait whatt i wanted to say où nous nous entraînons = where we train
Like together
I’m going over my flash cards about places I go after school
And the sentence was mais mon endroit préféré après l’école est le club de football où nous nous entraînons ensemble
When you say, 'we train', what are you doing? Are you training yourself (as in you're doing pressups) or are you training someone else (you tell them to do pressups)
If yourself –> s'entrainer (reflexive)
If someone else –> entrainer (requires an object)
Is my sentence wrong
it's right
Ok that’s fine then
you just don't understand the logic
Yeah that’s fine I’ll learn after my exam 😭 ig
You should really learn grammar
otherwise you might say, « Je réveille » to mean 'I wake up' and get a 0 on your exam
They think im doing homework but im revising
What does that mean
Ugh I’m scared now
They keep sending me warnings for asking for grammar help here
réveiller qqn = to wake someone [else] up
se réveiller = to wake up
Ohh
Is se the object pronoun
Je réveille mon père –> I made my father wake up
Je me réveille –> I wake myself up (as in I got up after sleep)
Since im like basically new im confused and ask the same thing in the same chat and they thing im like spamming or something
Yes and it changes according to the subject
Then I told them im not they said they would ban me
Ohh
Wait what’s the subjects like
Oh
😭😭
Just be patient, there are only two salle de classe channels, somebody will see your question
Yeah that’s what I’ve been doing
Thanks for helping me Courtney I remmener from like last week or something
People like Bertie and some of the natives are super helpful too
You’re welcome
Yeah
English gets loose with grammar at times which is why you should really learn French grammar because relying on English will mess things up
