Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
Which « que/qui », the relative or the interrogative pronouns?
The relative ones
As in:
« L'homme que j'ai rencontré était mon voisin / Le professeur qui m'a dit "Bonjour" était mon ami »
or
« Que veut le professeur ? / Qui veut faire cette tache ? »
Like in "Le personne, qui/que boit"
Ah okay, « que » for direct objects, « qui » for subjects
Oui
L'homme était mon voisin + J'ai rencontré l'homme = L'homme que j'ai rencontré était mon voisin
Are you asking this because of my correction in the other channel? :p
The short answer is Use "que" when the object is the direct object of the verb that follows and use "qui" when the object is the subject of the verb that follows.
"Je vois que tu as compris" (I see that you understood)
"La chose qui est sur la table" (The thing that is on the table)
Yeah, you confused me there with your correction 😂
ahhh ok
I’m sorry 😅
« Je vois que tu as compris »
–> This isn't a relative pronoun, this is just a conjunction
no problem at all
I didn’t read that they specifically meant relative pronoun, I was typing as soon as they said Que vs qui so I gave an example of that
okay thank you guys 🙂
