Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
Generally the same contexts as "essayer", generally more for things that are smaller and/or have less expectation of "succeeding" or being good
ah
i see
thanks mate!
Use tenter when you want to convey an attempt that is significant, risky, involves persuasion, or in formal/literary contexts. It carries a slightly stronger or more specific connotation than the more general essayer
When simply referring to trying or testing something without the implication of difficulty or risk, essayer is more commonly used. For example in “J'ai essayé de téléphoner, mais il n'a pas répondu”, most people wouldn’t use tenter in this context even though it technically works
It can also be something very small and insignificant, with little information as to whether it will be good/succeed or not (trying a food, trying to talk to someone without really expecting to succeed)
