Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
There is "that" (as an intensifier) and there is "that" (as a pronoun connecting two clauses). Because yes, a word can have different meanings and even different roles.
In "it isn't that simple", it's the former.
Try replacing "that" with "which" (which is the same as the latter "that") and you'll see it doesn't make sense.
what does intensifier mean?
A word that intensifies an adjective or an adverb, like "very", "too", etc.
Very fast, so simply, etc.
oh ok
can you give me an example of how it should look like with the word "that"?
i can't think of any situation when the word "that" can intensify something
"He's that dumb"
"She's that crazy"
"They're that unwelcoming"
oh
right
